CAPTRON RECEIVES 2017 BAVARIAN STATE PRIZE FOR NEW INNOVATION
News 14.03.2017: Franz Josef Pschierer, Secretary of State within the Bavarian State Ministry for Business and Media, Energy and Technology, presented the 2017 Bavarian State Prize to CAPTRON on Sunday, 12 March at the official awards ceremony.
CAPTRON impressed the judges in the “Technology” category with the first contactless anti-pinch protection for bus doors.” In collaboration with EvoBus, CAPTRON designed a solution that allows passengers on public regional transport to board and alight bus and rail safely.
Thanks to capacitive sensors in the bus doors’ rubber profile, they open automatically as soon as they detect a part of the body or object - preventing the passenger from getting trapped in the bus doors’ closing mechanism or parts of their body getting crushed. Unlike with conventional mechanical systems, bus doors with the new anti-pinch protection from CAPTRON are opened without the use of force and with no risk of injury.
FUNCTION AND SOLUTION
The anti-pinch protection on bus doors is currently provided through mechanical deformation of the rubber profile on the outsides of the doors, which requires contact between the passenger and the door. Before the door opens again automatically, the passenger feels in danger by touching the rubber profile.
The contactless anti-pinch protection from CAPTRON works through an antenna installed along the entire length of the rubber profile on the main closing edge, which acts as a capacitive sensor in a similar way to familiar control buttons.
- No mechanical deformity or contact required
- Passengers feel safer
- No mechanical wear, several hundred million switching operations
- Maintenance-free
